The Courtyard Venue – Shropshire Wedding Photography

A home-from-home setting for Emma and Rob’s countryside wedding (there are dogs at this one too!)

The Courtyard Venue in Oswestry, Shropshire provided a relaxed, home-from-home setting for Emma and Rob’s countryside wedding. Set in the grounds of a historic house, run by lovely people who care about weddings like they are family celebrations, and bonus points for being so dog-friendly. What’s not to love?

Emma and Rob are an active and outdoorsy couple with two adorable dogs, Rex and Christa. They planned a relaxed celebration with their family, friends, and dogs and wanted their wedding photos to capture the stories of their day without posing or distraction. Rob’s sister recommended us, and we’re so pleased she did (thank you for match-making!). It was clear from the start that we’d all get along brilliantly.

“The quality of your photos is brilliant. They look like photos of an experience rather than an attempt to make a stage show out of a wedding.”

Weddings at The Courtyard Venue have so much attention, care, and love poured into them from the owners, Simon and Tig. Right on the border of Wales and Shropshire, the scenery is stunning, and it’s easy to access for friends and family from across the country.  The ceremony room and tithe barn provide a blank canvas for weddings of all sizes and styles, and Tig is also a celebrant, so he conducted Emma and Rob’s ceremony too!

Emma and Rob got ready at nearby cottages just a short drive from The Courtyard Venue. Emma’s cottage had so many bees and butterflies in the garden, it was super peaceful and really special. Emma chose an elegant Eva Lendel dress from Dolly Blue Bridal, her bridesmaids wore dark blue, and Rob and his groomsmen wore Gieves and Hawkes suits.  The classic simplicity of their outfits and country-cottage style florals were a great match for the understated luxury of the Courtyard venue.

The whitewashed walls and rustic beams of the ceremony room were decorated with foliage and fairy lights. Tig conducted a lovely, personal ceremony for Emma and Rob (you can tell just how much he loves his job!). They’d done ‘the legal bit’ beforehand, so had the freedom to do whatever felt right. So, they had three readings from their friends and family, and their dogs were watching every moment (between naps!).

Their confetti was made from dried flower petals, expertly prepared by Rob’s mum and friends. Confetti is such a fun and happy part of a wedding, and when it’s been handmade by people close to you, it makes it even more meaningful.

Emma and Rob wanted to enjoy as much of their day as possible, with minimal posing for photos, so they could spend time with their guests and relax. That’s exactly how we love to work, photographing people being themselves and soaking up the love and happiness of every moment. The Sounds Interesting string quartet played as everyone enjoyed canapes and garden games, and Rex took some time to sunbathe and get some belly rubs!

Pies and Party!

The wedding breakfast started with social sharing platters, which got everyone chatting around the tables, then Treacle Town Pie Company wowed us with their award-winning flavour combos. After some lovely words from their family and friends, both Rob and Emma shared an insight into their lives together (plus Rob’s complete lack of ability to keep his phone charged!) and thanked everyone for coming together to join them. Watching the reactions and emotions in the room made it so clear how much these two are loved by everyone around them.

In the evening, one of our favourite wedding bands, The Hustle, got people onto the dancefloor. They are SO GOOD, and we jumped at the chance to recommend them to Emma and Rob! There was also pizza in the evening, which everyone got stuck into enjoying. Actually, just looking at the photos now is making us want another slice!
