Sacha and Steve’s wedding at Knockerdown Cottages

Sacha and Steve were passionate about how their wedding photography would be part of their day, and our signature style of unposed, relaxed storytelling was exactly what they were looking for. We knew this was going to be the kind of wedding that we’d love!

After first meeting Sacha and Steve for a pre-wedding shoot, they booked our “Simply the Best” package, with photography from getting ready right the way through to the wild party moments (just wait for the dance moves, boxer shorts, and a red wine covered wedding dress later in the evening!).

We started the day with everyone getting ready on-site and enjoying the morning together. There was bunting strung between the buildings and across the courtyard and plenty of drinks for everyone (does someone have shares in Gordon’s Gin??) so the atmosphere was already super relaxed and friendly.

Make-up Artist, Steph Swain had been booked via By Jodie to work her magic, she was busy perfecting Sacha’s make-up in the window light whilst the girls enjoyed glasses of bubbly and lots of giggles. The boys were also getting ready, spending their time chatting and wandering around indoors and outdoors as they all got into their Moss suits

Sacha and her bridesmaids had a little break in the fresh air in their PJs before final preparations began. Sacha’s stunning Enzoani dress from Abbey Wedding Warehouse was hung in the window, with the light catching all of the gorgeous lace detail across the dress and its long train. Her girls wore pale grey dresses from Wed2B as they helped Sacha with the finishing touches.

Outdoor wedding at Knockerdown in Ashbourne

Sacha and Steve’s ceremony was set up outside in the meadow, with the picturesque backdrop of the woodland and surrounding countryside. Decorated with floral displays from Dani at Deluxe Blooms, and a hessian carpet beneath the simple and comfy chairs, it felt like the ideal place for these two to say I do.

The approach to the aisle here is INCREDIBLE. You make your way to the ceremony along a walkway lined with huge trees, it’s super atmospheric and it took everyone’s breath away as Sacha came into view. Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces, and Sacha walking towards Steve from the woodland was a really special moment. It’s an epic ceremony entrance created by nature! The slight breeze in the air also added a touch of drama to Sacha’s long veil, looking showstopping as she elegantly wandered through the trees.

The magic moments

Capturing the touches and little looks between a couple during the ceremony is one of our favourite things about documentary wedding photography. They show the bond between a couple and preserve the feeling of the moment just as much as the smiles, tears and laughter from your friends and family. We document it all so you can look back and see some of the things you might have missed while you were focusing on the moment – and Sacha and Steve were so connected throughout their ceremony.

Relaxed Knockerdown Cottages wedding photographers

After getting married, Sacha and Steve walked back through the trees to Knockerdown Street where they were showered with confetti, you can check out our article with confetti tips if you need some ideas!

Greedy Pig Catering served a delicious selection of food for everyone to enjoy in the sunshine as Sacha and Steve chatted with everyone and sipped some fizz. We only needed a few minutes to capture formal photos with family and the wedding party, followed by some hilarious madness with their dog who loved having the grass to roll in!

The newlyweds had some quiet moments together in the woodland for photos before heading back to their reception and some garden games ahead of their wedding breakfast in The Brackendale Room

Trees from Paradise Landscapes, with simple foliage and fairy lights framed the banquet-style seating layout, which was ideal for the sociable and relaxed vibe of the day. Glasses were filled and hilarious speeches had everyone laughing!

Then once everyone was fuelled with food, the garden games got more competitive and people wandered outside to play, drink, and enjoy the evening sunshine.

Party time – Watch out for the wine!

As the sun went down Sacha and Steve had their gorgeous first dance outside, with the golden sunlight creating long shadows as it dipped towards the horizon, and views of the surrounding countryside in the background.

DJ Dave from A Zone Disco got the party started back inside and people pulled out some crazy moves. It was so much fun to capture and enjoy the celebrations. One of the moments that just shows you everything you need to know about Sacha and Steve was when red wine was spilt on her dress – there was no bridal meltdown, she just carried on partying in style regardless!

Thank you so much for having us, and congratulations to the most chilled and awesome couple!
