Natural and relaxed, spring wedding captured by New House Fram wedding photographers Reportage Studios

New House Farm Wedding.
Tucked away in the Lorton Valley near Cockermouth, New House Farm is one of those rare wedding venues that feels both totally relaxed and seriously special. Surrounded by rolling hills, wild meadows, and big Lake District skies, it’s the kind of place where you can truly make the day your own. The 17th-century barn has loads of charm—original beams, stone walls, and character for days—without feeling overly styled or stuffy. The farmhouse itself is warm, welcoming, and full of little details that make it feel more like a home than a venue. There’s plenty of room for everything—from calm morning prep to a full-blown dancefloor party. Whether you’re planning a chilled-out gathering or a big celebration with all your favourite people, New House Farm is a proper gem of a spot. We joined Katie and Alan for their wedding day as New House Wedding Photographers.
New House Farm Wedding Photography – Katie & Alan’s Big-Hearted Bash in the Lakes
Some weddings just feel like one big warm hug—and Katie & Alan’s wedding day at New House Farm in Cockermouth was exactly that. Full of laughs, personal touches, a few happy tears, and a proper knees-up at one of our favourite weddng venues in the Lakes.
We’ve photographed lots of weddings over the years, but this one had so many brilliant moments that felt totally them—fun, heartfelt, and completely relaxed. Exactly the kind of day I love to document.

The Setup – Real, Relaxed & Full of Personality
The ceremony was registrar-led and took place at New House Farm a beautiful spot that feels like home the second you get there. There’s plenty of parking for guests and loads of space to spread out and enjoy the day without it ever feeling too formal.
Katie got ready in the farmhouse on the morning of the wedding, surrounded by friends, family a calm buzz in the air, and a gorgeous bit of pampering thanks to Ashby Artistry—a total pro and a dream to work with. The light, the laughter, the build-up… even sing off it all came together so naturally in this space.
There’s plenty of room at New House Farm for everything—from peaceful morning prep to a full-blown dancefloor party. And speaking of parties—Simon Vogt brought his A-game as host and DJ. He kept the energy high, the day flowing, and the dancefloor packed (the man’s got serious skills).
Whether you’re planning a chilled-out gathering or a big celebration with all your favourite people, New House Farm is a proper gem of a spot—and it’s always a joy to photograph there.
Instead of traditional ring bearers, Katie & Alan did something a bit different (and honestly, I loved it)—they hid the rings under the guests’ chairs, and the lucky finders got to bring them up during the ceremony. Such a fun little twist that had everyone smiling and set the tone for the rest of the day.
Their aisle entrance? Not your typical “here comes the bride” moment. The adult page boy and page girl came strutting down first—handing out bottles of Irn-Bru and Pepsi to guests on their way. Brilliant, unexpected, and totally on brand for this couple. You could just feel everyone relax and lean into the day.
Food, Feels & Six Speeches (Yes, Six!) at New House Farm
After the “I do’s,” everyone headed into the barn for dinner, with food cooked up by the amazing Liz from Liz’s Country Kitchen. Meghan (aka ‘Mom’) summed it up perfectly: “the food was yummie!”—and she wasn’t wrong. From start to finish, Liz looked after everyone like family, and we were properly spoiled.
The speeches? There were six. Yep. Six! But every single one was packed with love, stories, and laughs—from the Father of the Bride all the way through to the Maids of Honour and Katie herself! They’d planned to do them after dinner, but timings were relaxed (as they should be!), and some started during the meal and it worked great. Personally We-New house farm wedding photographers love speeeches, always learn so much about people!
A Mum-Led Dancefloor & Pizza-Fuelled Send-Off
Katie’s mum officially opened the dancefloor—which I think should be a tradition at every wedding from now on—and the energy from that point was just pure joy. Katie and Alan had their first dance to Hooked on a Feeling, and it was the perfect soundtrack to a day that never took itself too seriously.
After the party got going, we jumped in the car and drove off into the evening with pizzas in hand—the kind of goodbye I’ll never complain about. Huge thanks to the couple and to Liz for making sure we were fed, watered, and properly looked after all day long. It really does make big difference. On the end we are super happy that with this stunning wedding we have won’This is reportage‘ story award, which are extremely difficult to win.
