Dunskey Estate Wedding Photography
The magic of the wild Scottish lowland countryside captured in honest, unposed and emotional Dunskey Estate Wedding Photography by Reportage Studios.

When Katherine and Ben got in touch from America and mentioned their plans to get married at Dunskey Estate, a magical Scottish Castle wedding venue in the village of Portpatrick near Stranraer in Scotland… we just knew we had to be there. Katherine and Ben were looking for a natural, relaxed approach, they didn’t want to spend their day posing, and they wanted their wedding photos to capture the feelings and emotions of bringing their nearest and dearest together to celebrate in an incredible location. This is exactly what we do, and we’re so glad they found us!
We love working in this part of the world and have captured documentary wedding photography in Scotland at some impressive locations. Scotland offers epic scenery and a wildness that creates something magical for weddings all year round.
Why Choose Dunskey Estate for Your Wedding?
Dunskey Estate is breathtakingly beautiful, expertly run, and just an amazing place to get married – as soon as we stepped through the door, we knew it would join the list of our favourite Scottish wedding venues! Space, scenery, exclusivity, activities, fresh air, nature… the list is endless and Dunskey Estate has it all!
Real Dunskey Estate wedding story – Katherine and Ben
Katherine and Ben’s family and friends gathered on the 2000-acre estate, surrounded by wild and gorgeous Scottish lowland countryside. We arrived to join them the day before their wedding, so we could explore and get to know the place a little. The owners welcomed us and showed us around; we were immediately offered drinks and food (the hospitality here is like no where else) and the food…. YUM!

Katherine and Ben had planned a weekend of celebrations, and their wedding day started with fishing and clay shooting on the estate in the morning. Then Katherine got ready with her bridesmaids in one of the stunning suites in the Castle. There was plenty of space for everyone to relax, and as Katherine put on her Jane Hill gown from Flutter Bridal, Ben was in the library with their two excited little boys waiting to see their mum in her wedding dress. They were so happy as they ran in to her room, and they looked adorable in their smart little kilts, which looked very cute alongside Ben’s MacGregor and MacDuff outfit.

Breathtaking Backdrops for Relaxed Wedding Photos
Fully embracing the magnificent, dramatic location, Katherine walked down the aisle for their ceremony on the beach accompanied by atmospheric bagpipes. They said their vows in a uniquely personal ceremony, delivered by their friend Caroline, with the waves on the shore behind them. Katherine put on the shirt Ben had worn on their first date, it hadn’t put her off then and it wouldn’t now! There was laughter, happy tears, and a huge celebration with bubbles swirling in the breeze to congratulate the newlyweds.
Relaxed, documentary wedding photography at Dunskey Estate
After getting married on the beach, Katherine and Ben spent some time with their boys, soaking up the atmosphere and picking up pebbles. They wanted their wedding photography to be as relaxed as possible, so we captured some natural portraits of them as they played with their children. Their group photos were super chilled and informal, letting the kids do their own thing and photographing the moments in between (it’s where all the best stuff happens).

An evening of celebration, dancing, and fun
The sun shone for their speeches on the terrace with canapes and drinks overlooking the grounds of Dunskey Estate. The canapes were just a small taste of the unbelievably good food they were about to enjoy. The dining room had been decorated with candles and vibrant floral arrangements, ready for a world-class feast to begin. We snuck into the kitchen to get some photographs of the chefs at work – honestly, we could not believe our eyes (or our tastebuds!).
The evening was full of fun and laughter, with a chaotic Ceilidh getting everyone onto the dancefloor, twirling around and having a brilliant time. There’s even a dungeon to explore for the after party! The band were fantastic and people were up and dancing all night long. There was a treat in store to end the evening, a huge fireworks display lit up the Scottish sky, before everyone grabbed their sparklers to surround the happy couple. Make sure uncle Bob is not fire hazard!
We loved this Dunskey Estate wedding, it was the perfect place for Katherine and Ben’s love story, being part of that was something truly special and we feel so lucky that this is our job!
