Shannah and Sam booked us as their Inn on the Lake wedding photographers to capture their relaxed and fun celebration in the Lake District. They wanted natural, beautiful photography, documenting their wedding, their lives together, and capturing their personalities. As new parents to lovely little River, Shannah also wanted to celebrate the reality of being a mum AND a bride, and how those roles magically worked together.
The Inn on the Lake is one of our fave Lake District wedding venues, and Shannah and Sam brought their family and friends together for a fun-filled and chilled-out day. They even surprised their guests with singing waiters and a boat trip on the lake after their wedding breakfast.

Shannah got ready at the venue with her bridal party, it was a super relaxed and fun morning. There were lots of smiles and laughter while Jaye Adams perfected their make-up and Jo Martin and Luiza Oliver styled their hair. Shannah chose a beautiful, flowing, boho gown and a whimsical flower crown. Her bridesmaids wore brightly coloured dresses, and Cumberland Flower Farm provided plenty of colour in the floral arrangements for the day. The sunflowers, pink roses and mountains of lush green foliage created a vibrant and happy vibe. Meanwhile, Sam and his groomsmen were getting ready at The White Lion Inn, just a 20-minute walk away.
Shannah and Sam had their ceremony under the picturesque Lakeside gazebo with spectacular Ullswater views and a gentle breeze in the air. Capturing Inn on the Lake wedding photography gives us the chance to enjoy this beautiful landscape, it’s right on our doorstep and it’s always such a joy to visit venues that celebrate the outdoors. The day was organised to perfection by Coordinator Kerri Barr and the Inn on the Lake weddings team.
Stunning views and some awesome surprises
After being showered with brightly coloured confetti, Shannah and Sam enjoyed hugs and drinks on the terrace accompanied by the Northern String Quartet, and we captured some group portraits in the grounds and by the lake. We kept these as short and fun as possible so no one felt like they were missing out on the party for too long. Then everyone headed inside for their wedding breakfast, starting with some speeches and ending with a brilliant surprise from The Best Singing Waiters who burst into song around the tables (Sam didn’t have a clue this was happening either!).
We popped outside with Shannah, Sam and baby River to capture some photos of them as a family on the swing next to the lake, we love these little moments of calm photographed between the scheduled events of the day.

Then another little treat, a boat from Ullswater Steamers arrived at the jetty to take the newlyweds and their guests on an after-dinner cruise around the lake. This was a relaxing and beautiful way to start the evening before they cut their colourful cake from Cherries Little Cake Factory.
When it was time to get the party started, their wedding DJ from Dancing in the Dark had everyone on their feet partying the night away – just look at all those happy faces! Photobooth Cumbria (another surprise!) had set up a selfie mirror for guests to capture their own memories, with some crazy poses and props to get silly with. There was laughter all night long!

The colourful flowers (and bright yellow Converse), huge smiles and relaxed vibe were a pleasure to photograph in our signature documentary style. We loved every minute of capturing Shannah and Sam’s wedding at Inn on the Lake, we were made to feel like part of the family and were encouraged to join the celebrations from start to finish. They’ve welcomed another little one to the family now, and we still keep in touch – and people wonder why WE LOVE THIS JOB so much!?
